The Batman - non spoiler review

Something's in the way - it's the ending.

The Batman was a must see for me as I'm sure it will be for many of you.

It has done very well in its opening weekend grossing $258 million globally meeting and even surpassing post Covid expectations.

IMAX tickets were duly purchased and I enjoyed the movie on Saturday night.

I didn't know what to expect and went in with no presumptions.

The first half of The Batman had me thoroughly entranced. The atmosphere, choreography, sound, vibe and direction were incredible.

Gotham was dark and dingy, it was gorgeous in its own ugly way. The Batman seemed pretty cool and I loved the detective style of the movie as we unravelled the Riddler's puzzles together.

Nirvana's Something in the Way soundtrack hit hard and there are some scenes in a club that sounded simply insane. I wanted to be there.

A stand out performance for me was also Colin Farrell's Penguin - yes that was Colin Farrell and he was an amazing Penguin. I loved his imagination of the character.

I really wanted to keep loving this movie as it went on but after the main theme played for the 50th time I began to lose interest.

The third and final act totally flipped my opinion on the movie. I found myself getting quite bored and aching for some excitement.

Characters became boring, The Batman depressing and Emo, Alfred had a silly accent and was a bit pointless and Catwoman started complaining about 'White privilege' - Yawn.

From there I switched off. I grew tired of Pattinson's narration and the ending really went out with a whimper.

It was such a shame as the movie began with a bang.

I have no desire to see the movie again at the cinema but I may play some of the start of the film again at home just to enjoy the music and vibe.

The Batman could have been epic had it had a more exciting ending and final act.

Pattinson was ok as Batman but a Dark Knight he really is not. I didn't find him to be very likeable but that wasn't the actors fault. He desperately needed more character development and backstory.

To liken or even say this is better than the Dark Knight trilogy is ridiculous. The Batman is not even close to the quality and level of the Nolan films.

The Batman started well but missed the mark.
