Indiana Jones - gone wrong. Contains Spoilers.
Another much loved video game gets its own movie in Uncharted.
We're huge fans of the game franchise here at the Grid so there was anticipation and excitement for this.
Sadly after leaving the cinema I was left feeling that I just wasted another couple hours of my life.
Uncharted looks to follow the success of movies like National Treasure and Indiana Jones but sadly falls flat because of its wooden acting, ridiculousness and odd pacing.
The movie feels like a non stop rollercoaster you just want to get off.
Tom Holland is a great bloke and we have much respect for him here at the Grid and the same can be said for Mark Wahlberg but in Uncharted both characters don't really seem to fit the part.
Tom still seems to be best suited to movies based around high school age (Spiderman) and it really is difficult to take him seriously as an adult in this movie.
Mark is your classic Marky Mark (does he play anything else) but to call him Sully (his character in the game) is quite the stretch.
The movie doesn't have any of the magic or charm of the games.
In fact the quips and one-liners feel very forced in this.
I know many folks will say that this is just silly fun; grab your popcorn and don't take it seriously however I would compare the movie to Netflix's recent release Red Notice.
Red Notice follows a similar fun filled vein but the characters (actors) feel a lot more interesting to watch, the humour is much better and the plot albeit silly is much more believable.
Uncharted goes down the path of making the classic villain mistake, subverting expectations by murdering who we thought would be the main villain in Antonio Banderas and replacing him with tick box diversity quota Tati Gabrielle who is just shockingly bad in this movie.
Once Tati (whose character name is Braddock) rises to take the mantle of evil villain, the movie goes from silly to downright ridiculous. Check out the ancient ships and helicopter scene.
Tati struggles to be the ultra badass assassin she's so desperately trying to be onscreen and is frankly just meh. Tom and Mark survive the day, yawn.
I wanted desperately to like Uncharted but it really was quite boring without any of the charm the Da Vinci Code, Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider or National Treasure.
It's not making the collection sadly.
Uncharted bows out with a whimper.
