Which one is best for you?
With acronyms out there like QLED, OLED, HDR, 4K, 8K, Nano Cell and more it may seem incredibly hard to pin down a choice for a new TV.
Hopefully this article will help you to decide what's best for your needs.
What Technology provides the best Picture?
OLED technology is the clear winner for image quality and Sony, Panasonic and LG OLED televisions are simply breathtaking.
OLED technology provides you with perfect black levels which allow the colours to truly 'pop' from the screen.
Trust us on this, OLED is unbeatable. Hence the hefty price tag!
The most affordable and consumed OLED TV sets are from LG and Sony. With sizes from 48 all the way up 83 inches these are the market leading brands with most buyers vouching for these fantastic sets.
Sony we would say are slightly better on image and sound quality but the LG is better for gaming due to its four 120hz HDMI inputs and VRR capabilities.
Any purveyor of such an elegant technology does well to purchase a separate surround sound system or soundbar as this will always be best for a true cinema experience.
Budget is key
The biggest factor in your television choice will be cost.
OLED TV's are typically very expensive although prices have dropped considerably over the past few years.
If you want the best of the best OLED is easily the way to go. If you're working on a budget however but still want considerable screen size then the standard LED/LCD sets from the likes of LG and Samsung could work for you.
Personally we feel the image quality from an OLED set will always triumph over any other technology.
The Cons of an OLED screen vs. LED/LCD
In the past OLED TV's had the chance to suffer from something called burn-in, much like the Plasma sets of old.
Burn-in can happen when you leave a static image on the screen for hours and hours. An example of this would be the news scrawl at the bottom of the screen like on Sky/CNN news or a permanent heads up display from a video game.
Left on the screen for hours, these images can leave behind a ghost like image which can be hard to get rid of.
Modern OLED sets have technology to minimise the risk of this happening but there is a small risk if you do like to leave static images on screen.
Therefore if you know you're going to be leaving the same image on the screen for endless amounts of time it may be worth going for a different technology such as QLED or LCD.
We personally game on OLED TV's and have never had any issues but we are careful to change the image on the screen at least once every hour.
What are the best TV's on the market?
The very best TV's that you can buy right now are the Z series OLED sets from LG.
These come in a 77" and an 88" version with 8K resolution.
The 88" model could set you back up to £20,000.00. Spicy!
For the average OLED consumer however we recommend the LG C1, G1 (which is brighter than most OLED's) and the Sony A90J model.
LG are releasing a 48", 55", 65", 77" and 83" model of the C1 this year.
We recommend the 65", 77" and 83" models.
The G1 which has an even brighter panel can be found in 55", 65" and 77" models.
Sony are releasing the A90J in 55", 65", 77" and 83" models.
The 83" would be our pick due its unbeatable picture quality. The Sony also now comes with two HDMI 2.1 ports for 120hz gaming.

More size for your buck!
If these prices are a little bit out of your budget you can still get serious screen size with good image quality for less.
We recommend the following the LG LED HDR 4K models as these get you 75" plus TV's for less than £1000.00.

Should you wait for 8K?
8K products are coming but to be honest the difference isn't that noticeable currently and there is barely any content available in 8K as it stands.
We think your new 4K TV will last you at least 5 years.
